Europa League: Boniface shines in Leverkusen win, Ogbu scores for Slavia Prague

The Nigerian duo of Victor Boniface and Igoh Ogbu were on target for their respective clubs in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Boniface scored one and assisted another in Bayer Leverkusen’s 4-0 win over Sweden’s BK Hacken at the BayArena to take his side atop Group H with three points.

The former Union Saint-Gilloise striker provided the opener for German midfielder Florian Wirtz in the tenth minute. Moroccan winger Amine Adli scored the second goal for Xabi Alonso’s team six minutes after they broke the deadlock.

Adli turned provider for Boniface in the 66th minute for his first goal for Die Werkself in European football. German winger Jonas Hofmann rounded off the home side’s scoring to complete their dominant performance over their Swedish counterpart.

Boniface’s display in the game saw him improve to six goals and three assists in six goals since joining Leverkusen in the summer.

At the Stade de Geneve in Switzerland, Nigerian defender Ogbu scored Slavia Prague’s second goal in their 2-0 win over home side Servette.

Czech midfielder Lukas Masopust opened the scoring for the away team in the 32nd minute, while Ogbu scored his first goal of the season with a thumping header to seal the win for them, taking the Czech side atop Group G with three points.
