Europa Conference League: Orban ends goal drought in Gent rout of Breidablik

Nigerian forward Gift Orban was finally back among the goals as Gent thrashed Icelandic club Breidablik 5-0 in the Europa League on Thursday night.

The 21-year-old striker, who had been on a nine-game run without a goal, broke his drought nine minutes after the hour mark for his side’s fifth goal of the game after coming on as a 57th-minute substitute.

Isreali midfielder Omri Gandelman opened the scoring for the Belgian side at the Ghelamco Arena to put Gent ahead inside the first ten minutes.

Belgian forward Hugo Cuypers scored the first of his braces in the 15th minute before adding his second four minutes later. Moroccan winger Tarik Tissoudali compounded Breidablik’s problem with Gent’s fourth of the game.

Orban, who had been on the pitch for just 12 minutes, returned to his scoring ways with a deft finish with his left foot after he was played in by South Korean midfielder Hong Hyun-seok.

Gent hit five goals for the fourth time this season, and the victory ensured they cruised to their second win in the tournament to remain atop Group B.
