Virgil van Dijk says he is disappointed by the Netherlands exit from the Euro 2024 championship after their 2-1 semi-final loss to England on Wednesday.
The Oranje had taken the lead through Xavi Simons but were let down by Harry Kane’s penalty and Ollie Watkins’ late winner.
It also meant the Netherlands failed to reach the Euros final beyond 1988 when they won the tournament.
“To concede in the extra time, you know, with the way also we’ve been playing the second half,” Van Dijk said.
“I think we were quite good, obviously against a very good England. We pushed them back. I felt like we could score, obviously, we don’t.
“And then it’s, your dream, our dreams come to an end. And it’s very tough to take after such a demanding year and a tough tournament as well. But it’s the reality, and it’s very disappointing.”

The Netherlands last reached the Euros semi-finals in 2004 but lost to hosts Portugal who would go on to lose to Greece in the final.
