Brief history

Poland might not be an European powerhouse but they boast of rich football history that has produced some of the finest footballers in the game.

Some of them include Piotr Zielinski, Lukasz Piszczek, Jakub Blaszczykowski, Grzegorz Lato, Zbigniew Boniek and a number of goalkeepers that include Wojciech Szczesny, Lukasz Fabianski, Artur Boruc, Jerzy Dudek and Tomasz Kuszczak.

Number of Euros appearances

Despite Poland’s perchant for producing amazing talent, they have only been to the Euros three times previously, their first outing coming in 2008 and in 2012 when they co-hosted it with Ukraine.

Best Euros achievement

Poland’s best achievement at the Euros was reaching the quarter-finals in 2016 in France when they lost to eventual winners Portugal on penalties.

Other Euro outings have been group stage exits including the last edition in 2021 that was held across various European cities.

Robert Lewandowski

The 35-year-old is the star of the Polish national team. Not only is he one of the most prolific forwards in the game, but he embodies everything for Poland as captain of the team and is also the country’s top scorer (82 goals) and holds most caps (150).
