Euro 2024: Nagelsmann reveals Germany’s goal after Hungary win

Germany are focused on finishing at the top of Group A at the ongoing European Championship, according to head coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Germany defeated Hungary 2-0 in their second group game on Wednesday with Jamal Musiala and Ilkay Gundogan finding the back of the net in each half of the game.

Wednesday’s result put Julian Nagelsmann’s side in a comfortable position in Group A with two wins out of two games, scoring seven goals and conceding just once.

They are now looking to finish with a 100 per cent record in the group as they seek for their first European title since 1996.

“We have to play the third game in the group stage but first of all thank you for the congratulations for today,” Nagelsmann told reporters after the win in Stuttgart. “We want to be first in our group stage, that’s important because we want to win every game.

“If you win every game you will be first in the group stage and then we will see. We cannot influence the results in the other groups so we’ll see what happens there and then we’ll see who’s our next opponents in the knockout stage.

“For today, I’m happy with the result and it was a tough game so we’ve qualified but there’s still one game to go in the group stage.”

Germany will return to action in Frankfurt for their final Group A game against second-olaced Switzerland on Sunday, June 23.

Switzerland were held to a draw by Scotland on Wednesday with Scott McTominay and Xherdan Shaqiri putting their names on the scoresheet in the opening 45 minutes.
