Euro 2024: France are not afraid of Belgium – Saliba

France centre-back William Saliba has stated that they are not afraid of anyone at Euro 2024 including their Round of 16 opponents, Belgium.

Les Bleus were runners-up in Group D behind the Netherlands and will square up against Domenico Tedesco’s men who finished second as well in Group E.

The highly-ranked teams in the FIFA standings will face off in Dusseldorf City on Monday and Saliba is positive about France progress.

“We’re not afraid of Belgium either. We’re not afraid of anyone,” Saliba said. “If they’re not afraid of us, good for them. We’ll see on Monday and we’ll do everything we can to win.”

The Arsenal star admitted that Belgium and France were not at their best in the group stage after both teams settled for just a win each in their respective groups.

Saliba is looking forward to a thrilling encounter with a place in the quarter-final up for grabs for the winner.

“Yes of course they didn’t play their best football during the group stages, but it would be a trap to base your opinion on these group matches because we know that this is a new competition that’s about to start,” he continued.

“Belgium versus France is always a shock. So, of course, they’ll be up against us, and we’ll be up against them too. We’re not going to look down on them because they’re a very good team and they’ve got a lot of great players. It’s not going to be easy.”

Saliba has played every minute of France’s games in Germany as Didier Deschamps’ men bid to end the country’s long-wait for an European title since 2000.
