Enzo Maresca makes first public statement since shock Chelsea exit

Former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has spoken publicly since he departed from Stamford Bridge on New Year’s Day, Afrosport reports.

During his tenure at Chelsea, Maresca secured the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, but conflicts with the club’s management ultimately led to his exit.

Chelsea’s BlueCo ownership acted swiftly to name Liam Rosenior from Strasbourg, the French club also under the ownership of the American group, as Maresca’s replacement.

In an Instagram post, Maresca expressed gratitude to the players and fans, stating he will “always cherish” the trophy victories from the previous season.

He wrote: “My journey with Chelsea began with the preliminary rounds of the Conference League. I leave with the inner peace of leaving a prestigious club like Chelsea, where it deserves to be.

“I want to thank all the Chelsea fans for their support over the last 18 months. Support that was crucial to achieving Champions League qualification, winning the Conference League, and winning the Club World Cup. Victories that I will always hold in my heart!

“A special thank you to all the players who have accompanied me on this wonderful journey.”

Currently, Chelsea sits fifth in the Premier League following their weekend draw against Manchester City, with caretaker Calum McFarlane, who was previously the Under-21s manager, at the helm.

The Blues are positioned 13th in the Champions League standings with two matches left in their quest for a top-eight finish, and they have advanced to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup, where they will face Arsenal in a two-legged tie.
