The Enugu State government says it has everything it takes to stage a world-class road race, as anticipation builds up for the maiden Enugu City marathon, Afrosport reports.
The event, which is organised by Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), is scheduled to be held on 3 May 2025 in the coal city.
According to the organisers, top international athletes have shown interest in taking part in the maiden event, and the Enugu State government says it will not be overwhelmed despite being the very first edition.
The Enugu State Commissioner for Sports, Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, made it known that the governor, Mr Peter Mbah, is keen about the event and is also looking forward to the big day.
“His Excellency, governor Peter Mbah understands clearly the power of Sports and where Enugu is in the history of Nigerian sports,” he said. “The governor is very determined to return the state to its glory days of Sporting excellence.
“As a state, we have everything needed to stage a world class road-race and the government is ready to make history come 3 May”.
Nilayo Sports Management Limited, meanwhile, are also the right owners of the gold-labelled Lagos City Marathon, Abeokuta 10 km race, Ijebu-heritage half marathon and the Remo Ultra-race.
