England’s Stanway out for ‘several months’ after knee surgery

England midfielder Georgia Stanway will be out of action for “several months” after undergoing knee surgery, Afrosport reports.

Stanway suffered a lateral collateral ligament tear in her right knee in training earlier this week.

German club Bayern Munich, in a statement, confirmed that the 26-year-old underwent successful surgery on Wednesday.

Stanway joined Bayern in May 2022, ending her seven-year career with Manchester City, having departed as the club’s top scorer with 67 goals in 186 appearances.

The midfielder will now be racing against time to be fit for the Lionesses ahead of the Women’s Euro 2025, which begins in July.

She played all of England’s games at Euro 2022 and helped the Lionesses reach the final of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, where they lost to Spain.
