En-Nesyri’s brace fires Sevilla past 10-man Elche

Youssef En-Nesyri ended his 14-game goal drought in La Liga by scoring twice in Sevilla’s 3-0 win over Elche on Saturday.

The Andalusians came into the match on the back of a nervy 1-0 win over Cadiz last time out, which had manager Jorge Sampaoli sent off.

Assistant coach Jorge Desio was in the dug-out at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan as En-Nesyri gave Sevilla the lead in the 29th minute with a powerful header off Marcos Acuna’s crosss.

Elche were reduced to 10 men in the 41st minute then Acuna, a 2022 FIFA World Cup winner with Argentina, doubled Sevilla’s lead two minutes later, blasting in a fierce shot from the edge of the penalty area.

Sevilla were not done yet, with En-Nesyri completing his brace in the fourth minute of added time in the first-half via a well-struck effort.

En-Nesyri’s two goals put him behind the trio of Oliver Torres, Erik Lamela and Rafa Mir who all have three goals in La Liga. It also takes the Moroccan’s goals in all competitions to eight with two goals registered in the Champions League and four in the Copa del Rey.

Sevilla’s victory makes it the first time they have recorded back-to-back wins in La Liga this season. It is also just their fifth league win of the season from 19 games which sees them move up to 13th on the log, four points away from the relegation zone.

Their next outing will come at the Camp Nou where they take on league leaders Barcelona next Sunday.
