Kylian Mbappe scored his first El Clasico hat-trick but it was not enough for Real Madrid to be on the winning side as they lost to fierce rivals Barcelona 4-3 in La Liga on Sunday afternoon, Afrosport reports.
The French star put Los Blancos in front at the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium in the fifth minute from the penalty spot before doubling it nine minutes later via a Vinicius Jr assist from a swift counter attack.
Barcelona found their way back in stunning fashion, starting with Eric Garcia in the 19th minute followed by goals from teenage sensation Lamine Yamal and a brace from Brazilian winger Raphinha.
Mbappe completed his hat-trick in the 70th minute with the assist coming from Vinicius Jr once again.
The former Paris Saint-Germain man became the first Madrid player to score an El Clasico hat-trick in the 21st century and only the third player of either team after Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.
Mbappe is however the first Los Blancos player to score three times in El Clasico since Ivan Zamarano did in January 1995.
It took his tally to 27 goals in La Liga and 38 in all competitions this season, making him best scoring Madrid player in his debut season since Zamarano netted 37 goals during the 1992-93 campaign.

Substitute Fermin Lopez had put the ball in the back of the net for Barcelona in added time but it was ruled out by VAR for a foul in the buildup.
The results sees the Blaugrana go seven points clear of Real at the top of the table with three matches left to end the season.
