Egyptian forward Salah wins Premier League award

Egypt international Mohamed Salah has been named the Premier League’s Player of the Month for October after his scintillating form helped Liverpool to three wins.

The 31-year-old moves level with former Manchester United forwards Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie to win the honour for the fifth time.

Salah, who currently boasts of winning the Premier League Player of the Month award more than any other active player, scored five goals for Liverpool in October. His 54-minute-per-goal ratio was the best in the league across the month, and he also created six chances and managed ten shots at goal.

The two-time African Footballer of the Year scored in all three of the Reds matches in the month. He scored a brace in their 2-2 stalemate against Brighton & Hove Albion followed by another double in the Merseyside derby win over Everton and he scored a goal in their 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the end of October.

Salah fended off competition from five other Premier League stars, including Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford), Douglas Luiz (Aston Villa), Pedro Neto (Wolves), Declan Rice (Arsenal), and Cristian Romero (Tottenham Hotspur).

Salah is one award shy of matching Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and former Red Devils forward Cristiano Ronaldo, who are both on six Player of the Month awards, while he will need two more of the accolades to join Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero at the top of the winners’ list.
