Egypt coach Hossam Hassan survives food poisoning after watching league match

Newly-appointed Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan was rushed to hospital on Monday night after suffering from food poisoning.

Hassan was on duty at the Ismaila Stadium to scout for players in the Egyptian Premier League game between Ismaily and Zamalek, but he required urgent medical attention immediately after the match.

Egyptian media reported that the country’s leading top scorer travelled to Ismaila on Monday and he opted to buy sandwiches on his way back to Cairo which caused the upset.

Hassan reportedly had difficulty in breathing upon arrival in the Egyptian capital city and he was placed on respirator at the hospital for almost four hours.

Medical test results confirmed that the 57-year-old had severe allergy and stomach poisoning.

Hassan was discharged from hospital on Tuesday morning and he confirmed the scary incident on his social media page.

The statement on X read: “Praise be to God, Captain Hossam was released from the hospital before dawn, and he is fine and reassuring people.”

Hassan was unveiled as Egypt’s head coach last Wednesday, succeeding Rui Vitoria while his twin brother Ibrahim Hassan was appointed technical director of the Egyptian national team.
