Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says Nicolas Jackson’s goal in the 1-0 EFL Cup third round victory over Brighton & Hove Albion was important for the forward.
The Senegal international had scored just once since his summer arrival from Villarreal and had come under scrutiny lately for finding it difficult to score but rather accruing yellow cards, something that will see him suspended for this weekend’s Premier League clash with West London rivals Fulham.
Jackson’s goal against Brighton his first since the 3-0 league win over Luton Town and also Chelsea’s first since the EFL Cup second win over AFC Wimbledon last month as well. Pochettino is now hoping the team can build momentum from it.

“Good response from the team, I was very pleased with the performance again and now happy for the victory and important to go through in the competition and build our trust and momentum. I hope we can bring this momentum to the future,” Pochettino said after the match.
“[Jackson] Yes, very pleased, I think when the striker scores it is important. He needed to feel the net and important for him, very pleased for him.”
Chelsea will get to face Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge in the EFL Cup fourth round.
