Egypt forward Omar Marmoush was on target twice as Manchester City defeated Newcastle 3-1 and 5-1 on aggregate in the EFL Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, Afrosport reports.
The Citizens won the first leg at St. James’ Park 2-0, giving them a comfortable cushion into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium.
Marmoush extended City’s aggregate lead in the seventh minute before completing his brace in the 29th minute, taking his tally to three goals in his last four games and five in all competitions this season.
Netherlands midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, named after former Nigeria international Tijani Babangida, netted the third and final goal for City in the 32nd minute.
Newcastle despite their heavy aggregate deficit, grew into the game in the second half, and scored their consolation goal courtesy of substitute and former Manchester United winger Anthony Elanga.

Man City will be appearing in their ninth EFL Cup against Arsenal at Wembley on March 22.
It is a rematch of the 2018 final which City won 3-0. The men in sky blue will also be aiming to win the title for first time since 2021 and for the sixth time under manager Pep Guardiola.
