EFL Cup: Jordan Ayew & Ndidi combine to lead Leicester City to victory

Ghana striker Jordan Ayew opened his goal account for Leicester City in their 4-0 thumping of League Two club Tranmere Rovers in the EFL Cup on Tuesday.

Ayew moved from Crystal Palace to Leicester a week ago and he took him 38 minutes to delight home fans at the King Power Stadium.

He broke the deadlock off with a powerful strike off an assist from Harry Winks.

After the halftime break, Leicester City doubled their lead with a goal from Stephy Mavididi and Ayew turned provider to assist Nigeria midfielder Wilfred Ndidi for the third goal in the 71st minute.

The effort was Ndidi’s first goal of the season and shortly after the goal, the two African stars were replaced by Steve Cooper.

Ghana’s Abdul Fatawu also made his way into the game in the 83rd minute as Winks wrapped up the emphatic result with a 90th-minute goal.

Leicester City are now through to the EFL Cup third round and will wait to know their fate in the competition.

The Foxes have started their 2024-25 campaign on a fair note with a 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in their Premier League opener, followed by a 2-1 loss at Fulham last Saturday.

Ayew, Ndidi and Fatawu will be hoping to inspire Leicester City to secure back-to-back home wins before the international break when they welcome Aston Villa to the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
