Alexander Isak was on target for the 50th time in a Newcastle United shirt as they recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Arsenal in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night, Afrosport reports.
Very little separated both sides until the 37th minute when Isak broke the deadlock with a clinical finish off a Jacob Murphy assist for his 11th goal in his last nine competitive starts.
Newcastle doubled their lead in the 51st minute when an Isak effort was palmed away by goalkeeper David Raya but Anthony Gordon was there to tap in the rebound from close range.
50 – Alexander Isak has scored 50 goals for Newcastle United in all competitions, while since his debut in August 2022, only Erling Haaland (105) and Mohamed Salah (73) have scored more goals in all competitions among Premier League players. Great. pic.twitter.com/9HYRmCYFoF

Arsenal tried to mount some pressure to find a way back in the game but the Magpies stood firm to hold a solid advantage heading into the return leg at St. James’ Park on February 5.
They will be in cup action again this weekend against League Two side Bromley while Arsenal will host rivals Manchester United at the Emirates.
