The 2024 season of the Extreme Fighting Championship will start on Thursday, March 7 with 12 bouts in the EFC 111 fight card.
The 2023 season came to an end on December 11 with Igeu Kabesa successfully defending his featherweight title against Reinaldo Ekson.
All eyes will be on the African MMA scene this year after former EFC champion Dricus du Plessis claimed the UFC middleweight belt at UFC 297 back in January.
As we count down to the first EFC event of the year, Afrosport gives all the details you need to know about EFC 111 and how to watch the fights.
What is at stake at EFC 111?
The EFC flyweight title is at stake at the EFC 111 event as defending champion Gift Walker takes on current bantamweight champion Nkazimulo Zulu on March 7.
Zulu was a former winner of the flyweight title but he needs to overcome undefeated Walker who was crowned flyweight champion last April.
Zulu heads into the Hexagon as the more experienced fighter having completed 16 fights more than Walker.
The 22-year-old has featured in five EFC fights so far and they all ended in knock-out wins in his favour.
Fights lined up for EFC 111
Aside from the title fight, there are three other main bouts in the EFC 111 fight card.
Jacques Lubaya will take on Nerik Simoes, Shannon van Tonder will lock horns against Tapiwa Katikati, while Martin De Beer is paired against Asiashu Tshitamba.
