EFC 102: Nigeria’s Ukah wins again, Hulme secures welterweight belt

South Africa’s Mark Hulme became the new EFC welterweight champion after beating Democratic Republic of Congo’s Ziko Makengele in round one of Thursday’s fight.

It was Hulme’s first fight at the Hexagon in over seven years and he showed exceptional skills in the opening seconds of the fight.

After keeping his opponent at bay, Hulme later locked in a tight choke that forced Makengele to tap out.

Makengele, nicknamed the Gorilla made his EFC debut in EFC 85 event in May 2021 and he won the welterweight title last year after beating Martin van Staden in EFC 93.

Three other fights out of the 10 cards EFC 102  ended in a first round, with Vandam Mbuyi rushing Ivan Strydom with series of punches that called for the referee to end the fight. Shannon van Tonder also wasted no time to dispatch Ashley Calvert likewise  JC Lamprecht who was all over his opponent, Khulekani Hlongwa with speed and power that led to submission

Nigeria’s Juliet Ukah also continued her winning streak in the UFC by dominating South Africa’s Crystal Van Wyk in the strawweight clash.

The Nigerian police officer left scars on Van Wyk’s face before winning the fight by unanimous decision. Ukah now has her sights set on the strawweight title that is currently held by Alice Ardelean.
