DuBoef tips potential Joshua vs Fury fight to bring Britain to a halt

Top Rank president Todd DuBoef believes a heavyweight fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury would stop Britain in its tracks, even if no world titles were at stake, Afrosport reports.

The potential fight, which could generate over $300 million in revenue, remains one of the most awaited boxing matchups even though both fighters lost their most recent bouts.

Fury lost to Oleksandr Usyk in two straight decisions, while Joshua was knocked out by IBF champion Daniel Dubois.

“I think the brands are so strong,” DuBoef told Sky Sports. “In the UK, the country would stop for an hour to see what happens and I think that’s a wonderful thing.

“It’s still two great fighters in the ring. The end. They’ve created an incredible fanbase and passion towards who they are. So I always think it lives there.”

DuBoef, whose company helps promote Fury, believes the fight’s appeal goes beyond the titles but emphasised that both men must first decide on their futures in the sport.

“I think they both have to decide if they want to fight, let alone each other,” he explained.

Joshua, who visited Nigerian President Bola Tinubu recently, confirmed his interest in facing his British rival.

“In 2025, I’m targeting Tyson Fury,” said the British-Nigerian fighter. “Time is running out, so I want to work harder. When I look back, I feel like I could have done more in 2024.”

Former heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko recently said he believes Joshua would beat Fury if they fight, joining Oleksandr Usyk and Francis Ngannou in supporting Joshua.

The fight could take place at Wembley Stadium, though Turki Alalshikh, head of Saudi boxing, has shown interest in hosting it during Riyadh Season.

Joshua will not return to the ring until at least May 2025, according to his promoter Eddie Hearn, who described the potential fight “the biggest fight probably in the history of British boxing.”
