On Tuesday, July 25, the Nigeria Basketball Federation released the final list of players that will represent the country at this year’s FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.

Newly-appointed D’Tigress head coach Rena Wakama called up 13 players for the showdown that begins on Friday, July 28, and runs until Sunday, August 6.

Toyosi Abiola, Elizabeth Balogun, Tomi Taiwo, and Sarah Ogoke make up the core of the D’Tigress team that left for Kigali on Tuesday ahead of the 28th FIBA Women’s AfroBasket championship, which serves as a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Nigeria, five-time champions and three-time defending champions, qualified automatically for the tournament alongside Mali, Cameroon, and Senegal after they all reached the Semi-Finals of the 2021 Women’s AfroBasket in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The D’Tigress are drawn in Group D alongside Egypt and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and they will be hoping to make it a fourth straight triumph when the competition begins.
