Nigeria women’s basketball team have qualified for the basketball event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
D’Tigress suffer a heavy 100-46 to world champions, USA on Friday but they qualified for this summer’s sports festival after Belgium thumped Senegal 97-66.
Nigeria joined host country Belgium and reigning world champions USA in picking up their tickets in Antwerp. Rena Wakama’s ladies struggled to match the Americans on Friday, losing all four sets by 19-13, 32-7, 24-15, 25-11.
Earlier in the qualifying tournament, the women’s AfroBasket champions triumphed over continental rivals 72-65 and they will be aiming to end their outing in Belgium on a high note when they face the host country in their final game on Sunday.
Nigeria will be making their third appearance at the Olympic Games this summer having previously featured at Athens 2004 and Tokyo 2020 Games.
D’Tigress have failed to advance beyond the group stage in their previous Olympics appearances, registering just a win in nine games so far.
