Adeniyi Kayode, the driver of the SUV that carried Anthony Joshua and killed two of his close boxing associates, in a crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway last month, appeared before the Sagamu Magistrates Court on Tuesday, Afrosport reports.
Latif Ayodele, Joshua’s personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength coach, died on December 29 after the SUV collided with a stationary truck while travelling to Sagamu from Lagos.
Joshua suffered minor injuries and was treated in hospital before he was released and returned back to the United Kingdom to attend the funeral of Ayodele and Ghami.
Kayode was hit with four charges previously: causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care, and driving without a valid driver’s licence.
He was held in custody and granted a bail release of ₦5 million. His case has been adjourned until February 25 to give the prosector more time to obtain legal advice.
There has been uncertainty about when Joshua will return back to the ring to fight. He however recently returned to the gym, with his promoter Eddie Hearn asserting the former world heavyweight champion will return when the time is right.
