Done Deal: Saudi club Al Ahli completes Ivan Toney’s transfer from Brentford

Brentford striker Toney ‘disappointed’ by leaks over betting ban

Saudi Pro League club Al-Ahli have completed a £40 million deal to sign England international Ivan Toney from Brentford, Afrosport reports.

The 28-year-old, who represented England at this summer’s European Championship where he scored a penalty in the shootout victory over Switzerland, agreed to a three-year contract to join Al-Ahli, bringing an end to his four-year stay at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Toney, who has less than one year remaining on his contract with the Bees, had initially returned from an eight-month ban after breaching the Football Association’s betting rules in 2023.

The England forward scored 20 goals in the 2022-23 Premier League season and netted four times in his first five matches last season. Since he joined Brentford from Peterborough in 2020,Toney scored 72 goals and provided 23 assists in 141 appearances for the Bees.

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Ivan over the last four years,” said Brentford boss Thomas Frank.

“He has averaged more than one goal every two games, which is an unbelievable number. On the pitch, he has been a fantastic goalscorer, link-up player and leader. He has pushed the team, the squad and himself.”

“Ivan leaves as a Brentford legend,” Frank added.

Toney is the second senior England international to signed for a Saudi Arabian club following Jordan Henderson departure from Ajax to Al-Ettifaq in January.
