Done Deal: Ouattara joins Brentford in club-record £42.5m deal

Burkina Faso forward Dango Ouattara has joined Brentford from Bournemouth in a club-record transfer worth up to £42.5 million, Afrosport reports.

The 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract until 2030, with the option of a further year.

Ouattara is one of several summer arrivals at the Gtech Community Stadium, joining the likes of Caoimhin Kelleher, Michael Kayode, Antoni Milambo and Jordan Henderson.

“We’re really happy to get Dango in.,” said Brentford boss Keith Andrews. “He’s someone that we were aware and surprised could be available and, once we knew that signing him might be a possibility, we really focused on trying to get him in.

“We liked his Premier League experience, even at his young age, and he just hasn’t found the rhythm yet because of a lack of consistent game time.”

Ouattara joined Bournemouth in January 2023 from French side Lorient and scored 11 goals in 88 appearances in all competitions for the Cherries, including netting nine times in 37 games last season.

He made his international debut for Burkina Faso in December 2021 and has since earned 30 caps, scoring 10 goals and featuring at two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.

According to reports, the Ouagadougou-native was keen on a move away from the Vitality Stadium, where he struggled to tie down a regular starting berth. Brentford, meanwhile, view him as the direct replacement for Bryan Mbeumo, who joined Manchester United in June.

Ouattara will wear the number 19 shirt previously donned by Mbeumo, and manager Andrews also highlighted his quality and the attacking depth he will add to the squad.

The 44-year-old added: “He suits the way we want to play – he has something that we were lacking in the forward line, and he will complement what we already have in the building,”

“The fans will love him – he’s the type of player that they will get off their seat for.”

The Bees will kick off their Premier League campaign on Sunday with a trip to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest.
