Done Deal: Mario Balotelli joins Genoa on a short-term deal

Former Inter Milan and Manchester City forward Mario Balotelli has joined Serie A club Genoa on a free transfer, Afrosport reports.

The 34-year-old penned a deal that will see him remain at the Grifone until June 2025.

Balotelli had been without a club after his contract with Turkish Super Lig side Adana Demirspor expired in the summer.

The Italian forward will be making a return to the Italian top flight having played for Monza in the Serie B in 2020.

The Grifones, managed by Alberto Gilardino, currently lie in the 18th spot in the Serie A standings and will be hoping for a change in fortune following the arrival of the 36-cap Italy international.

Balotelli was part of Manchester City’s Premier League winning squad in 2012 under Roberto Mancini, and also won FA Cup with the team a season before.

During his time with Inter, he won six titles, including three Serie A trophies and the UEFA Champions League in 2010.

Genoa will host Fiorentina at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Thursday.
