Wolfsburg have confirmed the signing of Christian Eriksen on a free transfer following his departure from Manchester United this summer, Afrosport reports.
The 33-year-old left United in June after his contract expired at Old Trafford. He has now penned a two-year deal with Wolfsburg, keeping him at the Bundesliga club until 2027.
“For me, Wolfsburg is my first stop in the Bundesliga. I’m really looking forward to this new adventure,” Eriksen said. “I’m convinced that together we can make a difference in Wolfsburg.
“The discussions with the management were very good. I immediately sensed that Paul Simonis had a clear idea for the team and also for me. The fact that the squad includes many familiar faces from the Danish national team makes VfL particularly attractive to me.”

Eriksen joined United as a free agent in the summer of 2022 and went on to make 107 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring eight goals and providing 19 assists. He won both the League Cup and the FA Cup during his time in Manchester, contributing 11 goal involvements in 35 matches last season.
Since leaving Ruben Amorim’s side, the Danish midfielder had been training with Swedish club Malmo while waiting for the right move. Wolfsburg eventually made their approach, and negotiations between both parties progressed swiftly, with Eriksen flying to Germany from Odense on Wednesday to complete the transfer.
Wolfsburg sporting director, Sebastian Schindzielorz, added: “We are very pleased that this opportunity arose for us at short notice. With Christian Eriksen, we are gaining a player who has seen and experienced everything at the highest level. His vast experience, his playing ability, and his personality will provide valuable inspiration, especially to our young players.
“We deliberately made structural changes this summer and signed numerous talented players with great potential. Alongside our experienced captain Max Arnold, Christian is a perfect addition to our team as another leading player who can make a difference on and off the pitch.”
Eriksen made his international debut in March 2010 and has since netted 46 goals in 144 appearances, making him Denmark’s most capped player. The midfielder has represented the Scandinavian nation at six major tournaments – three World Cups and three European Championships.
He was initially linked with a move to Bayer Leverkusen, who recently appoint Kasper Hjulmand – his former national team coach. However, the Denmark international opted to join Wolfsburg, marking the sixth club of his illustrious career so far.
While his current fitness level remains unclear, Eriksen is expected to feature for Wolfsburg before the end of the month. Simonis’ men currently sit sixth in the Bundesliga standings and are set to host FC Cologne in their next league fixture on Saturday.
