Done Deal: Chelsea announce Caicedo signing on long-term deal from Brighton

Chelsea have completed the signing of Ecuador International Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion on a long-term deal, the club announced on Monday.

The 21-year-old joins the Blues for a British transfer record fee of £115 million plus add-ons, signing an intial eight-year contract with an option for a further year.

“I am so happy to join Chelsea,” the Ecuadorian said. “I am so excited to be here at this big club, and I didn’t have to think twice when Chelsea called me, I just knew I wanted to sign for the club.

“It’s a dream come true to be here and I can’t wait to get started with the team.”

Caicedo, who becomes the most expensive player in the Premier League, is the second player to cross over from the Seagulls to Stamford Bridge following Robert Sanchez’s move earlier in the month.

He moved to Brighton in February 2021 from Independiente del Valle and went on to play 45 times in the Premier League and 53 matches in all competitions, scoring twice and providing three assists.

The impressive midfielder has also been capped 32 times by Ecuador, with three goals to his name, including scoring in the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Chelsea finally get their man after overcoming stern competition from Liverpool, who also wanted his signature and had already agreed a club record fee of £111 million for the youngster.

Caicedo is poised to make his debut for Mauricio Pochettino’s side at the weekend when they travel to the London Stadium to face West Ham United on Sunday, August 20.
