DFB Cup: Boniface opens Bayer Leverkusen account in eight-goal thriller

Victor Boniface scored his first goal for Bayer Leverkusen as they thumped FC Teutonia Ottensen 8-0 in the first round of the DFB Cup on Saturday.

The Nigerian forward is a summer signing from Belgian Pro League side Union Saint Gilloise where he scored 22 goals in 55 competitive appearances last season.

Leverkusen were a total class apart for their opponents from the German fourth tier and took the lead in the 16th minute via Burkina Faso defender Edmond Tapsoba before Boniface made it 2-0 in the 42nd minute with the assist from Alejandro Grimaldo. It became 3-0 in added time courtesy of Florian Wirtz to give Leverkusen a comfortable lead going into the half-time break.

The North Rhine-Westphalia team picked up from where they left off in the second half with Amine Adli, Jeremie Frimpong, Adam Hlozek (brace) and Jonas Hofmann completing the scoring.

Boniface played for 76 minutes at Millerntor-Stadion and was replaced by Noah Mbamba. He will be looking towards making his Bundesliga debut when Leverkusen host RB Leipzig at BayArena next Saturday.
