English midfielder Dele Alli confirmed on Friday that he was cutting ties with Premier League club Everton, Afrosport reports.
Alli, whose contract with the Toffees expired in June and who has been a free agent since, continued to train with the Goodison Park outfit.
The 28-year-old, who has endured a tumultuous last few years, will spend the next few weeks training with Italian club Como, who are coached by former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas.
He was in attendance at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Sunday, watching along as Como secured a 2-0 home win over Roma in Serie A, with Fabregas adding that the former Tottenham man could train with them after Christmas.
Alli, in a message on Instagram, thanked Everton for their support through the years, adding that “it’s the right time for me to turn a new page”.
He added: “2025 may set me on a new path with some exciting opportunities. Before any of that happens, it’s very important for me to make clear how grateful I am to all the fans, staff and players at Everton FC for the support they have given me.”
Dele Alli joined Everton in January 2022 from Tottenham, playing 13 times as he made just one Premier League start. He, however, has not played a competitive game since February 2023, while in the colours of Besiktas, and last played for Everton in August 2023.
“It’s been an incredibly tough journey trying to put the final pieces together to regain match fitness and I cannot thank the Everton staff enough for the hard work they have put into this process,” he added.
“Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out as we all would have hoped, and I think it’s the right time for me to turn a new page. I want to wish everyone at this amazing club the very best of luck.”
The midfielder is expected to sign for Como in January if he can prove his fitness once training begins on Boxing Day.
Como’s sporting director Carlalberto Ludi told Italy’s TMW Radio station: “We need a few weeks, including time to get to know each other then we’ll make the best decision. A percentage? It’s too early to say. We’ll go through a period of mutual understanding but Fàbregas likes him a lot.”
