Deadline Day: Morocco’s Amrabat joins Fenerbahce on loan from Fiorentina

Morocco international Sofyan Amrabat has joined Fenerbahce on loan from Italian outfit Fiorentina, Afrosport reports.

The Turkish giants announced on their social media handles that they have reached an agreement with Fiorentina to sign the combative midfielder on a season-long loan.

The Atlas Lion star is reportedly on his way to Istanbul, the Turkish capital, to undergo his medicals and complete the necessary paperwork to make the deal official.

The 2022 World Cup star was part of the Fiorentina side that edged out Puskas FC Academy in Thursday’s UEFA Conference League final qualifying round fixture.

Amrabat’s current contract with Fiorentina will expire in the summer of 2025, and the nature of his departure signifies it may be the end of their union, which started in 2020.

Recall that the 29-year-old joined Manchester United on loan from Fiorentina on September 1, 2023, where he made 30 appearances across all competitions, including 21 in the league.

Ambrabat was nominated for the 2023 African Footballer of the Year by the Confederation of African Football, CAF, in November 2023 but was beaten to the award by Napoli and Super Eagles forward, Victor Osimhen.
