Crystal Palace’s 2022-23 Premier League: Best player, best result & top scorer

Crystal Palace’s 2022-23 Premier League: Best player, best result & top scorer

Crystal Palace ended the season as happy campers relishing another year in the Premier League season after 10 consecutive appearances since their return to the top flight in 2013.

The sacking of Patrick Viera in March sent shivers down the spine of Palace fans after they failed to win a game since the turn of the year but the appointment of the experienced Roy Hodgson steered them to an 11th-placed finish as they won six, drew three and lost two of their final 11 Premier League games to secure safety.

Best Player: Eberechi Eze

The young Englishman of Nigerian descent was the most consistent performer for the Londoners over the season. Eze played in all of Crystal Palace’s Premier League matches this season (38) and he contributed 10 goals with four assists.

The 24-year-old delivered when it mattered most with his playmaking skills, dribbling abilities and eye for goals.

Worst Signing: Albert Sambi Lokonga

After struggling to cement a place at Arsenal, Sambi Lokonga made a loan switch to Selhurst Park in January 2023 but he also didn’t do much to make the fans optimistic that he came good.

He managed just nine appearances for the Seagulls, of which three were cameos from the bench.

Best result: 5-1 away at Leeds United

The victory was not just their biggest of the season but it was the only result in which they had four different goalscorers.

Marc Guehi, Jordan Ayew, Eberechi Eze and Odsonne Edouard all found the back of the net at Elland Road.

Worst result: 4-0 at home to Tottenham Hotspur

On January 4, the Seagulls got their pound of flesh after a bright start at home as they surrendered the momentum and eventually the match with four second-half goals.

Not a memorable London derby for the Seagulls.

Top Scorer: Eberechi Eze

Eze doubles as the top scorer of the team with 10 goals, marking a significant improvement after he scored six goals in the previous two seasons.
