Conte mum over Tottenham future after Champions League exit

Tottenham manager Antionio Conte has refused to discuss his future at the North London club after their exit from the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Spurs played out a goalless stalemate with Italian Champions AC Milan at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium but they lost on aggregate after a 1-0 defeat to the Rossoneri in the first leg.

Conte, who returned to the side after recuperating from his gall bladder surgery, revealed it was not the right time to talk about his future at the club.

“I have a great relationship with the chairman, Daniel Levy, and the managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t tell them what my vision is. You understand?” the Italian manager said.

“I repeat, we will see. Now we have to finish the season, and I have a contract until June.

“I’m happy to work at Tottenham, but, you know, at the end, I will make a decision, and the club knows very well what my vision and thoughts about this situation are.”

The former Chelsea and Inter Milan manager also highlighted the need for Spurs’ fans to be more patient as the team continues to work towards claiming a trophy.

“I’m really sorry for the fans, I really am, but we cannot invent the win and it is important to know this.”

“We cannot invent the win or hope in a miracle one day that a trophy comes into our training ground or our pitch. We have to build. We have to build and have patience.”

Tottenham are without a title in 15 years since winning the English League Cup in 2008. However, they came close to winning silverware in 2021 under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho, but the Portuguese manager was sacked days before the final, which they eventually lost to Manchester City.
