Moroccan club RS Berkane have made it through to the 2023-24 CAF Confederation Cup final without kicking a ball.
RS Berkane were scheduled to host USM Alger on Sunday but the Algerian club failed to turn up for the game at the Stade Municipal de Berkane despite being in Morocco.
USM Alger, on Saturday, shared pictures of their arrival in Rabat to challenge for a place in the final but no official statement has been released to defend their absence the stadium.
It was however a disappointing show for thousands of RS Berkane who trooped to the stadium for live football game but they only had a few minutes of their team’s training.
USM Alger and RS Berkane semi-final clash was marred by the ongoing diplomatic rift between the two North African countries.
The first leg of the semi-final did not take place in Algeria a week ago because RS Berkane had the Moroccan map boldly drawn on the jerseys and they were seized by Algerian authorities.
Consequently, USM Alger were handed a 3-0 loss by CAF for the unjust treatment which gave RS Berkane upper hand into the second leg.
2022 Confederation champions RS Berkane will now face 2019 winners Zamalek of Egypt in this year’s final.
Zamalek defeated Ghana’s Dreams FC 3-0 on aggregate to make it into the final stage.
