Confederation Cup: CAF to inspect Rivers United’s home ground again

CAFCC: Rivers United clash against DC Motema postponed

The Confederation of African Football will carry out a fresh inspection on the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, the home ground of Nigeria Premier Football League reigning champions Rivers United.

Stanley Eguma’s side are in the quarter-finals of the Confederation Cup, having played all their home group games at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Ahead of their first leg clash against Tanzanian Premier League side Young Africans on Sunday, CAF will re-inspect Rivers United’s home ground at a later date after an initial examination on April 6.

CAF’s stadium inspector Nasir Jubril Nasir declined to comment on the developments of the inspection but Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Chris Green confirmed the continental body’s intentions to check out the facility for the second time.

“CAF told us they will send another team to inspect the stadium, and that is going to take another time,” Green explained.

“On our part, we have done everything necessary to give the stadium a new look and we will be ready to receive them. Maybe they will do it before the semi-finals, but whenever they are ready, we are also ready.

“Our game is more like a national project now and we are glad to have represented the country so well thus far. We want to continue in that light and everything is in progress to ensure we have a good outing in Uyo just as we did in the group stage. We are mobilising fans from Port Harcourt and we will also mobilise in Uyo as well.”

Rivers United claimed two home victories out of three which helped them finish second in group B with 10 points and earn a place in the knockout phase of the competition for the first time in their history.
