Chelsea have completed the signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United on a seven-year deal that runs until 2032 worth £40 million, Afrosport reports.
The 21-year-old was told to find a new club by head coach Ruben Amorim at the end of last season after he questioned the Portuguese tactician’s decision to bring him on in the final 20 minutes of the Europa League final loss to Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao.
He was subsequently frozen out of the squad along with Marcus Rashford (now on loan at Barcelona), Jadon Sancho, Anthony and Tyrell Malacia, who all requested they want to leave Old Trafford.
Garnacho joined United as a youth player at the age of 16 from Atletico Madrid in 2020 and made his senior break under Erik ten Hag in October 2022.
He played 144 times in all competitions for the Red Devils, scoring 26 goals and providing 22 assists, winning the EFL Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
Reacting to his transfer, Garnacho said: “It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club.
“I can’t wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we’re the best team in the world!”

His transfer to Stamford Bridge includes a 10% sell-on clause on any future sale while his transfer figure will make him United’s fourth most expensive sale after Cristiano Ronaldo (£80 million to Real Madrid in 2009), Romelu Lukaku (£68.1 million to Inter Milan in 2019) and Angel di Maria (£44 million to Paris Saint-Germain in 2015).
