‘Chelsea playing without identity & leaders’ – Mikel cries out amid poor form

Former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel has slammed his former club Chelsea for their poor results in the Premier League.

Mikel charged Mauricio Pochettino’s men to rediscover their form as they currently occupy the 12th spot in the league table.

A 2-1 loss to Manchester United followed by last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Everton means Chelsea have now suffered back-to-back defeats in the English top-flight.

Mikel who spent the majority of his playing career at Stamford Bridge, affirmed that Chelsea’s depleting form is due to a lack of leaders in the team.

Mikel said on his Obi One Podcast: “There is no identity on how the team wants to play. Are we just going to sit back and say that we are still in a rebuilding process? We don’t have time for that. We have to start winning games. When I look at the team, it comes down to a lack of leaders.

“Against Everton, I looked around the pitch, there wasn’t a single leader. There’s no one on the pitch to go up to your colleagues and say, “Wake up, what are you doing?”, come up to you and yell at you, that’s what we did before.

“People like Didier Drogba, John Terry and Frank Lampard, when you had a crappy game, those guys would wake you up. I look at the manager, I didn’t see him shouting at one of the players to say: “Do your fucking job, wake up, make sure you run around so we win the game.”

Chelsea have a chance to turn around their poor form when they welcome Sheffield United to Stamford Bridge for their next Premier League encounter on December 16.
