Chelsea complete £60 million signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton

Chelsea have completed the signing of Joao Pedro from Brighton & Hove Albion on an eight-year deal worth £60 million, Afrosport reports.

The 23-year-old Brazilian scored 19 times in 58 Premier League games for the Seagulls after joining from Watford in a £30 million deal in 2023.

He becomes the Blues’ sixth summer signing after the acquisition of Liam Delap, Estevao, Dario Essugo, Mamadou Sarr and Kendry Paez, and will join up with the squad ahead of their FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras in Philadelphia on Friday.

“Chelsea is delighted to announce the signing of Brazil international Joao Pedro from Brighton and Hove Albion,” read a club statement.

“The 23-year-old forward has penned a long-term deal with the Blues that runs through to 2033, and joins the squad immediately ahead of our FIFA Club World Cup quarter-final against Palmeiras.”

Pedro, in his own statement, said: “Everyone knows this is a big club with a great history. They had brilliant players in the past and have brilliant players now. So, I am excited to join, and you know when you are a Chelsea player you must think one thing — win.”

Chelsea defeated Benfica 4-1 after extra time in the Club World Cup round of 16 in Charlotte and will face either Fluminense or Al Hilal in New Jersey should they make it to the semi-finals.
