Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has chosen Filip Jorgensen as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper ahead of Spaniard Robert Sanchez, Afrosport reports.
Maresca on Thursday said Jorgensen, who joined the Blues from Villarreal in July 2024, is the club’s No. 1 “at the moment.”
The 22-year-old goalkeeper started Chelsea’s last Premier League game against West Ham, with Sanchez settling for a place on the bench following numerous errors this season.
Sanchez has made the joint-most errors leading to goals in the Premier League this campaign, with his five errors tied by Ipswich’s Arijanet Muric. He was in goal in their 2-1 FA Cup loss at Brighton, but Maresca has now confirmed Jorgensen as Chelsea’s leading shot-stopper.
“I said that the Filip solution [against West Ham] was also to give Robert some time to recover mentally and physically,” the Blues boss said.
“But the idea is not to game-by-game change the keeper. In the last Premier League game we had Filip and in the FA Cup it was Robert. Our keeper at the moment is Filip.”
Maresca added: “I spoke with Robert a few days before West Ham where I took the decision to play Filip. I never spoke again with Robert. Filip, exactly the same.
“They know the situation. This is the situation now and then we will see.”
Chelsea, fourth in the Premier League, will visit the Amex Stadium on Friday to take on Brighton with the possibility of avenging their FA Cup exit.
