Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle on Tuesday announced a 25-man squad for this month’s Unity Cup Tournament set to take place in London, Afrosport reports.
Chelle, who took over the Super Eagles in January, has named Kano Pillars forward Ahmed Musa, midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Frank Onyeka, defenders Semi Ajayi and Bruno Onyemaechi and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali to the team.
The duo of Maduka Okoye and Amas Obasogie will rival Nwabali in goal, while in defence, Slavia Prague’s Igho Ogbu is joined by Remo Stars duo of Junior Nduka and Sodiq Ismaila as well as Ifeanyi Onyebuchi and Waliu Ojetoye, with Felix Agu available for training.
The midfield has Getafe’s Christantus Uche alongside Papa Daniel Mustapha, Saviour Isaac and Collins Ugwueze, while the experience of Kelechi Iheanacho and Moses Simon will be complemented by the likes of Samuel Chukwueze, Cyriel Dessers, Nathan Tella, Tolu Arokodare, Adamu Abubakar and Sikiru Alimi.
“We’re looking forward to taking part in the Unity Cup as it will give us the chance to try out a few new players in different roles, helping us to strengthen our squad before the matches in September and October,” said Chelle.
The 2025 Unity Cup, involving Nigeria, Ghana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago, will be held at the 17,250-capacity Gtech Community Stadium, home of Premier League club Brentford.
The tournament, comprising four matches, will see the Super Eagles take on Ghana’s Black Stars in an all-West African affair on Wednesday, 28 May, a day after Jamaica tackle Trinidad and Tobago in the first semi-final.
The 2025 Unity Cup will end on Saturday, 31 May, with the third-place match and final to crown the champions.
Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will take on Russia at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Friday, 6 June, with Chelle inviting 21 players for the international friendly.
The Malian has called upon captain William Troost-Ekong, Olaoluwa Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel, midfielders Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Raphael Onyedika, and forwards Victor Boniface and Sadiq Umar to join a selected group from the Unity Cup squad.
