Senegal claimed the 2024 African Nations Championship bronze medal after defeating Sudan 4-2 on penalties in Fridayβs third/fourth place playoff in Kampala, Afrosport reports.
The Teranga Lions were denied a chance to make it to back-to-back finals after losing to Morocco on penalties in the semi-finals, while the Falcons of Jediane lost to Madagascar in extra time.
The Sudanese were the ones to kick things off in the bronze medal match at the Nelson Mandela National Stadium, with Mohamed Asad scoring in the sixth minute off an assist from Abdelrazig Omer.
The lead remained in their favour until Ousseynou Seck found Seyni Ndiaye to level for the Senegalese.
The match went into a penalty shootout after the scores ended 1-1 in regular time, and Sudan missed twice through Walieldin Khidir and Musab Makeen, while Senegal converted all theirs to secure the victory.

The CHAN 2024 tournament ends on Saturday with Morocco and Madagascar facing off at the Moi International Sports Centre in the Kenyan capital city of Nairobi.
