CHAN 2024: CAF reveals hosts and qualifier dates for historic tournament

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) on Thursday, confirmed the host for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), Afrosport reports.

The continental football body revealed that the East African nations of Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania will serve as co-hosts for the tournament which is played by players based on the African soil.

CAF also announced that the qualifiers for the 2024 CHAN will be played across two rounds: the first round is scheduled for the weekend of 25-27 October, 2024, and 1-13 November, 2024. However, second round of the qualifiers will be held on 20-22 December and 27-29 December, 2024.

The qualification slots for the tournament were also revealed by CAF as three teams will qualify from WAFU A, WAFU B, UNAF, UNIFFAC, and COSAFA zones.

Meanwhile, the CECAFA zone, which houses the three host countries, will receive an additional slot as a result of their automatic qualification as hosts. The three co-hosts will participate in the qualifying tournament and owing to their automatic qualification slots, the team with the best result in the CECAFA qualifiers will also advance to the final tournament.

This means for the first time ever, 19 teams will compete in the final tournament in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The host stadiums are yet to be confirmed but CAF revealed the CHAN will be held between 1- 28 February, 2025.
