CHAN 2022: All you need to know and how to watch in Nigeria

The seventh edition of the 2022 African Nations Championship is set to commence in Algeria from the 13th of January to February 4.

In September 2020, CAF announced that the biennial competition is rescheduled from July 2022 to January 2023 due to postponements of the 2020 edition to 2021 and the 2021 AFCON to 2022.

For the first time in the competition’s history, 18 countries will jostle for glory.

Where are the venues for the competition?

Four stadiums in four host cities will host all the matches in the 2022 African Nations Championship.

The Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers with 40,784 capacity is billed to host the opening ceremony.

The May 19th Stadium in the North-Eastern part of Algeria boosts of the highest capacity of housing 58,100 people.

The other grounds include Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran with 40,143 capacity and the Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium in Constantine which is the home ground of Algerian Ligue 1 clubs CS Constantine and MO Constantine.

Who are the participating teams?

18 teams will be participating in this year’s tournament after three countries qualified from each of the six African football zones.

Algeria, Morocco and Libya – Northern Zone.

Senegal, Mauritania and Mali – Western Zone A.

Ivory Coast, Niger and Ghana – Western Zone B.

DR Congo, Cameroon and Congo – Central Zone.

Sudan, Ethiopia and Uganda – Central Eastern Zone.

Madagascar, Angola and Mozambique – Southern Zone.

 

How can I watch in Nigeria?

All the matches at the 2022 African Nations Championship will be shown LIVE on Afrosport TV. You can watch on Free TV decoder, with channel number 730 and other affiliate partners across Nigeria.
