Algeria head coach Madjid Bougherra said they know all about Libya ahead of their opening match at the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) opener on Friday.
Home advantage should be a key factor for the North Africans and Bougherra is prepared for the task.
The tournament hosts will also face Ethiopia and Mozambique in what is only their second ever CHAN appearance, 11 years after their debut in Sudan where they finished fourth.
“We know how Libya plays, its strengths and weaknesses, especially since these teams are waiting for us at the last 18-meter line,” Bougherra told CAF website. “We must prepare ourselves well.”
Algeria played three warm-up games against Mauritania, Senegal and Ghana, all of them ending in draws.
In the final friendly match against the Black Stars, the Desert Foxes were not clinical enough with goal attempts but Bougherra is confident his team will improve on such weakness before Friday.
“In this friendly match against Ghana, we discovered several good things, especially with our defence. There are also negative points which we must improve on,” Bougherra continued.
“It was an almost equal friendly match between Algeria and Ghana. We had some chances during the match, but unfortunately, we were not able to convert them into goals.
“In any case we must work to eliminate the negatives from our game. We’ll improve the attack of the team before the tournament starts.”
Algeria’s clash with Libya will take place at the newly-built 40,000-capacity Nelson Mandela Stadium in the capital city of Algiers.
