Champions League: Saka, Haaland nominated alongside two others for Player of the Week

Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka and Manchester City goal machine Erling Haaland have both been nominated for the UEFA Champions League Player of the Week for matchday 4.

The duo was selected alongside Brazil and Real Madrid forward Rodrygo Goes and Atletico Madrid talisman Antoine Griezmann, who has found form back under the tutelage of Diego Simeone.

Saka, who was awarded the UEFA player of the match award on Wednesday night, helped Arsenal to a comfortable 2-0 win over Sevilla at the Emirates Stadium. He ended the game with a goal and an assist as the Gunners improved to nine points and increased their lead at the top of Group B to four points above PSV and Lens.

Haaland made it back-to-back brace against Young Boys, as his first half penalty and 51st minute finish ensured Pep Guardiola’s men cruised to a 3-0 victory at the Etihad Stadium and booked their spot as one of the six teams already in the knockout rounds.

Rodrygo, on the other hand, bagged a goal and an assist for Los Blancos in their 3-0 win over Braga. The 22-year-old provided Brahim Diaz with Madrid’s opener before rounding up their victory with a peach of a finish in the 61st minute to score in consecutive Champions League games.

Griezmann was the controller of Atletico’s orchestra in their 6-0 rout of Celtic at the Civitas Metropolitan Stadium on Tuesday night. The in-form Frenchman scored twice and did not put a foot wrong for the 65 minutes he was on the pitch for Los Colchoneros.

The winner of the award will join FC Porto’s duo of Galeno and Evanilson, who won the honors for matchdays 1 and 3, respectively, along with Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, who won it for matchday 2.
