Champions League: French authorities ban PSV supporters from PSG clash

French authorities have banned PSV Eindhoven supporters from their upcoming Champions League fixture against Paris Saint-Germain due to previous disturbances, Afrosport reports.

The last time PSV played in France, their fans and RC Lens supporters threw objects at each other during a 1-1 stalemate in the Champions League group stages in October 2023 at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

PSV said in a statement on Monday said that the decision by the French authorities was shocking as it was totally unexpected. The Dutch club added that 2000 supporters had already bought tickets for the match scheduled for October 22, and they will have to fully refund their monies back.

“There is a total travel ban for PSV supporters to and within Paris,” a statement from PSV stated.

“Despite the fact that PSV had no penalties outstanding, French police are citing past disturbances with supporters… there are also some domestic security issues at play.”

The Eredivisie club were also instructed to play one away game without their fans in 2022 after some crowd trouble in a 1-0 loss against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

PSV currently have one point from their opening two matches in the Champions League this season after a defeat to Juventus and a draw against Sporting Lisbon.

They will visit the Parc des Princes to take on PSG after the ongoing international break, with the Parisiens currently 19th in the standings with three points.
