Michael Carrick has reached an agreement to become interim manager of Manchester United until the end of the season, Afrosport reports.
He emerged as the temporary pick over Ole Gunnar Solskjaer following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim last week.
The 44-year-old was seen arriving at the Carrington training complex on Tuesday morning, with his appointment set to be confirmed officially later in the day. He will be assisted by Jonny Evans, Travis Binnion and Jonathan Woodgate.
Carrick was previously caretaker coach for three games in 2021 after the dismissal of Solskjaer. He went on to become the manager of Middlesbrough in October 2022 and remained in charge at the Riverside Stadium until June 2024.
United U-18 coach Darren Fletcher oversaw the 2-2 draw with Burnley in the Premier League and the 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup.
The FA Cup exit means the Red Devils will not participate further in any cup competition this season after failing to qualify for Europe last season. It means they will play only 40 matches this term, which will be their lowest number of matches played in a single campaign in 111 years.
United are seventh in the Premier League, three points away from the top four and will face crosstown rivals Manchester City on Saturday.
