Carabao Cup: Morocco’s Zaroury provides hat-trick of assists in comfortable Burnley win

Anass Zaroury provided a hat-trick of assists as Burnley cruised into the Carabao Cup fourth round with a 4-0 win over Salford City in Tuesday’s third round action at Peninsula Stadium.

The Clarets were on the receiving end of a 1-0 loss to Manchester United in the Premier League at the weekend and needed a response to bring some confidence back in a season that has not gone so well for manager Vincent Kompany results-wise.

Zaroury began his contribution of the night in the 12th minute when his corner kick found the head of Sander Berge to score the opening goal of the game. The Morocco international then lofted the ball for Jacob Bruun Larsen to give Burnley a 2-0 lead eight minutes later before another Zaroury freekick led to a justle to clear ball between Salford players. The lose ball ultimately fell to Dara O’Shea to tuck in from close range for 3-0.

Zaroury provided the assist of the final goal of the game with a fine cross on the right flank that found Wilson Odobert who finished off superbly inside the box.

In other Carabao Cup third round results on Tuesday night, Ivorian Emmanuel Latte Lath scored in Middlesbrough’s 2-0 win over Bradford City while Anglo-Nigerian Freddie Ladapo netted in Ipswich Town’s comeback 3-2 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
