Cameroon’s Onana impresses on Manchester United debut

Andre Onana impressed on his Manchester United debut, keeping a clean sheet in the Red Devils’ 1-0 Premier League win over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday night.

The Cameroon shot stopper moved to Old Trafford from Inter Milan this summer as a replacement for long-serving David de Gea who departed as a free agent after 11 years with the club.

Wolves looked the more threatening side for much of the game but Onana was equal to the task of thwarting them, making six saves, five of them inside the box. He also had 49 touches on the ball and made 24 accurate passes at 66.7%.

United won the match courtesy of Raphael Varane’s header from an Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s cross in the 76th minute.

The Wolves starting XI had two Africans in Algerian defender Rayan Ait-Nouri and Gabon midfielder Mario Lemina. Both players were issued yellow cards with Ait-Nouri playing for 77 minutes and replaced by Hugo Bueno while Lemina played for the entire 90 minutes.

United will be on the road next when they face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday while Wolves welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to the Molineux on the same day.
