CAFCC Final: USM Alger earn first leg away win

Young Africans & USM Alger reach CAF Confederation Cup final

USM Alger gained the upper hand in the CAF Confederation Cup final after seeing off Young Africans 2-1 in the first leg at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Sunday.

Both teams were making their first-ever appearance in Africa’s second tier club competition and it was USM opened proceedings in Dar es Salaam when Aymen Mahious scored in the 32nd minute.

The scoreline remained 1-0 in favour of Algerians until the 82nd minute when DR Congo forward Fiston Mayele equalised for Young Africans. It however didn’t take too long for USM to respond as Islam Merili scored the winner two minutes later with a composed finish.

The result means USM Alger have a two-goal away advantage heading into the return leg at Omar Hamadi Stadium on Saturday.
